PEGS is a grassroots organization which was established in June of 2006 by parents of gifted students to address the needs of the gifted child. We formed in response to inequities in the current educational system regarding our children, and frustration with the difficulties we found in asking for compliance with Pennsylvania's gifted regulations. We recognize that many schools are not offering our children Individualized gifted plans that serve their needs and maximize their potential, and that many parents are not aware of their right to insist on a gifted education for their child. In creating PEGS, we hoped to provide a sanctuary for parents who would like to support each other in learning more about the needs of the gifted child, and who would like to facilitate change in how the needs of gifted children are approached. We hope to organize, lobby, and provide information to legislators, parents and students to improve gifted laws, regulations, and compliance on a state and local level.
